History
Head of the department Rainer Dietz (Head of the Department of Cardiology, Humboldt-University Berlin, Charité Campus Buch and Virchow) actively supported cardiac MRI in Berlin-Buch from the very beginning in 1994 throughout all the various phases. The group was founded by Matthias G. Friedrich who was joined by Oliver Strohm and Jeanette Schulz-Menger. As a trio they pursued cardiac MRI until 1997.
In the following time the group increased in size and activities: Scan hours were extendend with the introduction of the first 1.5 T scanner (GE CV/I ) of our own in 1998. In 2003 we got a 2nd 1.5 T Scanner (Siemens Sonata).
In 2004 Matthias G. Friedrich left for Canada to build the Stephenson MRI Center at the University of Calgary. Jeanette Schulz-Menger is now leading the group of about 10 physician scientists, post docs and undergraduate students. In 2007 a move of the whole hospital took place and we are now working on two 1.5 T AVANTO scanners.
Furthermore, a new Ultra-High-Field Facility is under construction including a 7.0 T whole body system (Siemens Medical Solution, Germany) and a 9.4 animal scanner (Bruker).
The group is supported by 5 technicians led by Kerstin Kretschel, a study nurse and a secretary.
